The Dakar Design Hub, initiated by Senegalese designer Sophie Nzinga Sy, was launched at the end of 2021 thanks to GIZ support. The center is based on an area of 1,200 m² and has a capacity to welcome 300 to 500 students per year.

The aim is to provide the necessary standardized training for tailors and textile craftsmen. It covers also the whole spectrum of design, as well as leather goods and jewelry made in Senegal and Africa. This makes possible to link different levels of training that are complementary to each other.

GIZ supported the establishment of the training center and the development of its services:

  • Support in the development of training curricula with national and international expertise
  • Equipment the training center
  • Communication/Media support
